A few years ago we went apple picking in Northern Georgia. Truth be told, I had no idea there were apple farms in Northern Georgia. When I think Georgia, I think heat but luckily the North is filled with mountains which of course means the temperature fluctuates so yep amazing apples grow there. We are mapping out our fall activities and apple picking is on the list. This year we are planning to go at least 3 times during the season so we can get to know a few of the other orchards. You can reach most of these destinations in under 3 hours so make a date of it.
Red Apple Barn: I’m putting this first because this is the orchard we visited and loved. The apples are amazing. You can pick apples straight from the trees, from barrels pre-picked or buy apples at the barn. Make sure you get some of their cider too. We had the apple and the peach. Oh and please don’t forget to grab apple cider doughnuts. These are a must. There’s also a pumpkin patch and a few fun games to enjoy. The tractor ride out to the orchid is also fun for kids. http://www.redapplebarn.com/
P.S. We went here last weekend and once again Red Apple Barn did not disappoint. It was also much more crowded so I guess people are on to our favorite place.
B.J. Reese Orchids: Starting from the end of August, U-Pick apples season is open at B.J. Reese. This one is definitely on our list because you can go any day during the week to pick apples. Total bonus to avoid weekend crowds and traffic. Great outing for homeschoolers and stay at home mom or dad playdates. They also have a market and bakery. http://www.reeceorchards.com/
